Chair of CE Ministerial Committee Calls ‘Presidential Elections’ in Nagorno-Karabakh as Unacceptable

France, Strasbourg / corr Trend E.Mejidli / Fiorenzo Stolfi, the Chairman of the Council of Europe Ministerial Committee, the Foreign Minister of San Marino, called the 'presidential elections', to be held in Nagorno-Karabakh as unacceptable.

Answering the questions and appeals addressed to the Committee he stated that the holding of any elections in the occupied territory of any CE member-state is unethical and does not meet any international standards, Stolfi noted that much work should be done in connection with this issue.

Stolfi was commenting on the appeal by the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegate, Ganira Pashayeva, with respect to the so-called 'presidential elections' to be held in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh on 19 July, which will negatively impact the negotiations continuing between Azerbaijan and Armenia and steps taken by the CE Ministerial Committee to prevent illegal elections hindering the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus region. Stolfi was commenting on the appeal by the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegate, Ganira Pashayeva, with respect to the so-called 'presidential elections' to be held in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh on 19 July, which will negatively impact the negotiations continuing between Azerbaijan and Armenia and steps taken by the CE Ministerial Committee to prevent illegal elections hindering the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus region.

Later Pashayeva again appealed to Stolfi, questioning about the sufficiency of CE's activities in the direction of resolution of the problems in some areas and CE's activity in the settlement of these problems. The head of the committee stressed the importance of CE's activity on these issues. Stressing CE's attention to such matters, Stolfi noted the necessity to increase CE's activities in the resolution of the problem.
