There was a breakthrough of longshore protective levees in the area of the lake Sarisu in Imishli region of Azerbaijan May 21, a message posted on the website of the Ministry for Emergency Situations said.

There was a breakthrough of longshore protective levees in the area of the lake Sarisu in Imishli region of Azerbaijan May 21, a message posted on the website of the Ministry for Emergency Situations said.

Some villages Allahmedetli and Telishli were flooded as a result of destruction of the dam. The forces of the ministry for emergency situations and other organizations were involved in liquidation of diaster.

Floods in 40 Azerbaijani regions have been recently registered. About 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 destroyed, 2,000 were in emergency condition, 50,000 hectares of cultivated land were under water as a result of the disaster.
