The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry has today issued a statement about the breaking down of a lift in a many-storey building in Baku.

The accident occurred in the 17-story building at the Azadlyg Avenue at about 14:00. The rope of the lift in the building's 4th entry broke down on the seventh floor.

Baku residents, Ulkar Valiyeva, Elnara Garayeva, Ulduz Isakova, Sevda Mammadova, Jalal Akhundov, Sona Imanova, Malahat Guliyeva, Rahila Gurbanova and Zemfira Novruzova got injured as a result of the accident. The injured were hospitalized.

The fact is being investigated.

Ten people, including nine women and one child, were injured as a result of breaking down of a lift in one of the many-storey buildings of Baku, Baku Emergency Medical Service deputy chief doctor Rauf Nagiyev earlier told Trend.  

Five of them were taken to the Clinical Medicine Centre and the rest to the Institute of Traumatology, he said.

The accident occurred in the 17-story building at the Liberty Avenue, 185 in the Rasulzade settlement of the Binagadi district at about 15:00.

According to preliminary information, health status of several victims is critical.

Nagiyev said no one died as a result of the accident.

The rope of the lift broke down due to overload, the Bingadi District Police Department told Trend. The lift was on the second floor at a time of the accident. The people inside the lift got light injure.
