The investigation considers accumulation of large mass of snow as the main version of the roof collapse of the Basmanni bazaar. We are intent to exclude that the roof collapsed as a result of terrorist or deliberate act, Citing Mayor Yuriy Luzhkov said.
According to Luzhkov, the building was built over 300 years ago and the roof maybe did not withstand load of wet snow. Besides, he said that the thickness of the snow on the roof comprised 40 sm, while similar constructions must withstand the 1.4m snow.
Luzhkov also stressed that similar constructions were subjected to examination after destruction of the cupola of Transval-park, owners of the buildings received license for their further exploitation. Nevertheless, similar constructions do not withstand modern weather conditions and require other solution. The same time Mayor did not exclude that such buildings may be liquidated in the future, RBC reports.
