Municipalities to Control Cemeteries in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I. Alizade / The control and care of cemeteries in Azerbaijan will be passed to municipalities. At a meeting on this issue, the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Regional Issues decided to introduce changes to the law on the status of municipalities and their financial resources.

Presently, local executive bodies carry out control and care of cemeteries. MP Arif Rahimzade, the Chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Regional Issues, said that following the changes, additional funds for this work will be allocated from municipalities' budgets.

MP Fazil Ibrahimli said that for the first time in Azerbaijan a concrete sphere has been given over to the authority of municipalities. "So far, municipalities were engaged only in the sale of land areas, but now they will be engaged in concrete work," he said.

Changes were introduced to the law on the status of members of municipalities at the meeting of the commission. In the case that bribery is revealed, administrative penalties will be applied with respect to an employee of the municipality.
