Caspian summit, good model for regional cooperation: Ahmadinejad
( Irna ) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Thursday that the Caspian Sea summit is a good model for cooperation among the regional countries.
The president made the remark while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the general meeting of the High Council for Provinces.
Presidents of the five littoral states of the Caspian Sea -- Iran, Russia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan -- attended their second summit in Tehran on Tuesday aimed to find a proper legal regime for the sea.
" Caspian Sea summit had different messages. Its most important message was that commonalties between the Caspian Sea littoral states are more than their differences," he said.
He added that it also carried a message that good decisions would be made in favor of nations in an atmosphere of friendship and cooperation.
"The Tehran Declaratoin institutionalized the meeting of foreign ministers, drew up a security system and clarified the path for economic cooperation. Good decisions were made about these issues in the summit," the president added.
He stated that Iran has always been a strong country, adding that after victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iran played a determining and active role in all fields.
"Iranians have words for the world's nations which are welcomed by billions of peoples because their words are based on logic and human dignity," he said.
Pointing to political outcomes of Tehran summit, Ahmadinejad added, "It once again portrayed an image for those who cannot believe that they are separated so they will accept their real position." "They, themselves, are the truly isolated countries in the world.
These states made efforts to prevent holding the Caspian Sea summit or travel of certain leaders to Iran. But we witnessed the summit was held successfully."
He cautioned certain leaders saying, "They should know that the time for their rule has come to an ended and that they should not create a gloomy atmosphere by their unfounded and irrational words."
He stated that his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was held in a very good and friendly atmosphere, adding, "We discussed all bilateral, regional and international developments." " Iran and Russia share common stances on several issues. We think that the two countries can cooperate with each other," Ahmadinejad said.
He added, " Tehran and Moscow have a strategic eye to international issues. Both sides are powerful, effective and influential."
The president stressed that coordination between Iran and Russia would be beneficial for mutual, regional and international peace and security and noted that President Putin's visit to Tehran opened a new chapter in Tehran-Moscow relations.
