The United States sees no opportunity to resolve the issues regarding Europe's energy security without Russia, but boost diversification of energy supply sources, the US Secretary of State Deputy Assistant, Matthew Bryza, said when commenting on the results of the 'Responsible Energy for Responsible Partners' international conference which took place in Vilnius on 10 to 11 October - ITAR-TASS quotes.
"We need negotiations with Russian partners, especially with Gazprom. But at the same time we should realize that other countries and companies also may offer their services in energy supplies on commercial basis," he noted.
Bryza stressed that the conference in Vilnius is in no way intended against Russia and is not an attempt to push Russia out of the European market or Caspian region projects. At the same time, the United States believes nobody can monopolize gas supplies to Europe."
The conference in Vilnius was initiated by Lithuanian and Poland Presidents - Valdas Adamkus and Lech Kaczynski. Azerbaijani, Georgian, Latvian, Romanian, and Ukrainian Presidents were in attendance.
