Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Ali-zade / Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of reconstructed Cemetery of Martyrs in Baku on 2 November.
The first to be interred in the Cemetery of Martyrs were the people who died when Soviet troops invaded Baku at nigh of 20 January, 1990. Later, the people who died during Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between 1991 and 1994 were also buried there. It is the first time the Cemetery has been reconstructed.
Tomb stones and facing stones were replaced. The Cemetery has been brought to correspondence with modern standards. The complex of Eternal Fire was reconstructed. The words ' Cemetery of Martyrs' (S?hidl?r Xiyaban?) were made of gold and the Azerbaijani flag raised at the entrance.
