Azerbaijan and Iran Prepare Discussing Status of Caspian Sea: Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Agayeva / The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Iran, Abbasali Hasanov, reported to Trend on 3 October by telephone from Tehran that the next stage of the Azerbaijani-Iranian bilateral talks on the status of Caspian will take place by the end of next year. Already the Ambassador submitted proposals of the Iranian side regarding the date and agenda of the talks and expects a response. The meeting will take place at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Khalaf Khalafov and Iran, Mehdi Safari. The sides will discuss consultations on approach of sides' positions on the status of the Caspian Sea.

Last time the status of Caspian Sea was discussed in Tehran at the summit of the State Heads in Tehran. The summit adopted a declaration stating states that all problems regarding the status of the sea should be resolved with the agreements of five littoral countries.
