Peace Corps to Increase Number of Volunteers in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend K.Ramazanova / In 2008 the Peace Corps will increase the number of volunteers in Azerbaijan, Ronald Tchetter, the head of the Peace Corps, said at a news conference in Baku on 6 November.

"We discussed this issue with the Azerbaijani President and hope that next year the number of volunteers will be increased to 120," he said.

During the meeting with the President the sides reached an agreement on the expansion of this sector. "I explained to the President about our experience in other countries in the spheres of health, ecology and agriculture," Tchetter stressed.

The Peace Corps was established in 2003 in Azerbaijan and had 181 volunteers. At present, 85 volunteers are serving in Azerbaijan.
