Switzerland Governmental Delegation to Visit   Azerbaijan –Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The development of the trade-economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland will be discussed by the Governmental members of both countries in Baku on 14 and 15 November. The negotiations will be held within the framework of the next meeting of the Azerbaijani-Swiss inter governmental commission on economic cooperation, Elchin Amirbayov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Switzerland, said by the telephone from Geneva.

The Swiss delegation headed by the head of the Swiss Ministry of Economy to arrive Baku on 13 November to take part at the meeting. The agenda includes discussion in transport, energy and bank spheres.

The sides will consider expansion of trade relations between both countries. Recently, the trade turnover between both countries has increased.

In 2006 the volume of trade turnover between countries made up 28mln franks, but at the first quarter of 2007 the number reached 120mln franks ($105mln).

The other relevant issue of the discussions will be transport of Azerbaijani gas to Europe with participation of Swiss company.

The Swiss Elektrizitats-Gesellschaft Laufenburg AG (EGL) is working over the project on construction of gas pipeline between Azerbaijan and Italy. The project is supported by the Swiss Government, Volter Steim, the Energy Minister of Switzerland, said.
