Azerbaijan Needs to Move towards EU: Bulgarian Premier

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / Azerbaijan needs to move in the direction of the European Union (EU) and Bulgaria is prepared to support this objective, Sergey Stanishev, the Bulgarian Premier, said in a meeting at the Baku Slavic University on 13 November.

"Bulgaria, as a member of the EU, will insist the position that the EU should allocate more funds to Azerbaijan, Georgia and other countries, with a wish for closer cooperation with the organization," Stanishev.

The EU is not a large market, and not a political bloc, but a group of countries, which hold the same interests in many issues.

" Azerbaijan, as a young developing country located in a difficult region, maintains good neighborhood relations with all countries of the region and defends its national interests and Europe is interested in closer cooperation with a country like Azerbaijan," he said.

Bulgaria is also prepared to develop relations with Azerbaijan on a bilateral basis. "Though our relations were always good, but not active enough and now we are all for activating them," the Bulgarian Premier said.
