Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The chairman of the Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP), Ayaz Rustamov, charged Isa Gambar, the leader of Musavat party, and Sardar Jalaloglu, the leader of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, with violation of opposition unity.

"Independent political leaders should unify the opposition, however, at the last moment they destroy everything," Rustamov said.

"Rustamov and Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) together with ANIP were joined within a single structure titled the Consultative Council. The Council made the decision to develop general proposals concerning the Election Code. Later the DPA and Musavat together with the ANIP and the Liberal Party of Azerbaijan (LPA) developed proposals and boycotted the meeting dedicated to discussions of the election legislation held in Baku on 7,8 and 9 November.

The joint activities of Gambar and Jalaloglu hinder the unification and development of the opposition.

ANIP was founded by Etibar Mammadov in 1992. Mammadov is the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Union.
