Group of Opposition Parties to Present to Venice Commission Proposals on Elections Code

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Around 10 opposition parties will hold a meeting on 22 November to discuss the issues concerning improvement of the Elections Code, Mirmahmud Miraligolu, the chairman of the Classical Popular front of Azerbaijan Party, said on 19 November.

The parties are developing a general package of proposals on supplements and changes to the Elections Code and present it to the Council of Europe (CE) Venice Commission.

He majority of these parties did not participate in the discussion on reforms to the elections legislation, which were held in Baku on 7, 8, and 9 November under the aegis of the Venice Commission and IFES.

A working group charged in the development of proposals on the Elections Code was established at the headquarters of the Classical Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party with the participation of 10 parties. The group unites representatives from the parties Musavat, the Azerbaijan Democratic Party, the Azerbaijan Liberal Party, which are considered leading oppositional political parties.
