Russian Defense Minister to Visit Radar Station in Azerbaijan (EDITED)

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / The Russian Defense Minister Anatoli Serdyukov will visit the Gabala Radar Station in Azerbaijan on 27 and 28 November, the Russian Embassy reported.

The ten years agreement between Azerbaijan and Russia on rent of the Gabala Radar Station was signed in 2002.

Gabala Radar Station is a warning station for missile attacks and was designed to track the launch of the land and marine ballistic missiles which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads and making continuous control on cosmic space. The station is able to control danger at a distance of 6,000km. The station was put into commission in 1985 and the station's ttechnical resources will be in operation to 2012.

The Russian Defense Minister will discuss the military cooperation with the Azerbaijani President and Defense Minister during his visit to the country.
