Places of Six Persons Searched by Interpol   Azerbaijan Determined

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynli / The places of six persons who are being searched by the Azerbaijan National Office of Interpol and other sixteen people being searched by the Interpol member-countries have been determined, said the Chief of the Head Investigation Department of Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry, Emin Shekinski, at the Ministry's conference dedicated to the past ten months of the current year. "The number of the persons who are being searched has decreased by 1.2% compared to the last year. In addition, 94 people who were hiding in the CIS countries and other foreign countries have been detained. They are accused of committing crimes in the territory of Azerbaijan," he added.

The Deputy Chief of the Drug Enforcement Department of Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry, police colonel- lieutenant Shahin Mirzayev, said that over the past ten months, 295kg of narcotics have been withdrawn and sterilized as a result of operative measures taken in the 'black market'. The narcotics included 86.3kg of opium, 120.5kg of marijuana, 62.6kg of hashish, 25.5kg of heroin, as well as 360 tons of herbs having narcotic ingredients amounting to $2mln.

Some 737 facts have been discovered with regards to narcotics. Over the reported period, 122.9kg of drugs were kept from being imported to the Country through contraband. Some 40 foreign citizens were detained and instituted to the criminal responsibility.

Making a speech at the conference, the Interior Minister of Azerbaijan, general-colonel Ramil Usubov, said that the last year's positive tendencies in fighting against criminality and keeping pubic security were maintained this year as well. It is testified by the disclosing of hundreds of heinous crimes, arrest of the persons being searched, withdrawal of drugs, arms and ammunitions from illegal turnover.
