Azerbaijani Democratic Party may Support Candidate from Ruling New Azerbaijan Party – DPA’s Chairman

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) will support the candidate from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) if DPA can receive an agreement from the Government during the elections, Sardar Jalaloglu, DPA's chairman said.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for 15 October 2008. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will nominate his candidature for the next term during the presidential elections 2008.

According to Jalaloglu, under the new political course DPA supports constructive opposition against the NAP. DPA is planning to participate at the elections. However, DPA will support the candidate from the ruling party if NAP gives a positive response to DPA's proposal. "We may agree our positions with the Authorities. The Authorities should submit their proposals on the issue and we will discuss them, Jalaloglu said. He did not give any details of the proposals.

DPA was founded by Jalaloglu in 1991.
