Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend J.Babayeva / Communist Party of Azerbaijan (CPA) made an appeal to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Justice, said the Chairman of CPA, Rauf Gurbanov, on 24 December at press-conference dedicated to the results of the 37th Congress. "The appeal to the Ministry of Justice envisages amendments to the party's Regulation, registration of extracts from the Congress's protocol," Gurbanov said.

Gurbanov was elected as the party's Chairman at the Congress on 23 December. There was not an alternative candidate to the post of chairman.

Ex-chairman of CPA, Ramiz Ahmadov, died on 10 September 2007. After this, differences appeared between the deputy chairmen of the party and as a result the CPA was divided into two parts - supporters of the first Deputy Chairman, Rauf Gurbanov and Rustam Shahsuvarov. The supporter of Shahsuvarov held the Congress on 14 December and he was elected as the Chairman.

According to Gurbanov, they require that the seal and other important documents of the party should be taken from the organization headed by Shahsuvarov. "I believe that the opposite side will not break the law and accept the legitimacy of our Congress," Gurbanov said.

According to Gurbanov, according to the Law on Political Parties, an appeal will be made to the Governmental bodies to provide headquarter to the CPA.

The CPA was established at the beginning of the last week. In 1991 Ahmadov re-established annulled activities of the party. The CPA was represented in the Parliament of Azerbaijan in 2000-2005.
