Less Crimes in Nakhchivan Autonomous   Republic of  Azerbaijan – Head of Supreme Assembly

Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, 9 January/ corr. Trend E. Mammadov/ In 2007, the number of crimes committed in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan has gone down as compared to the previous year.

"The number of crimes in Autonomous Republic has gone down by 39% as compared to 2006. In 2006, 113 crimes were registered, but in 2007 only 69", Vasif Talibov, the chairman of Supreme Assembly of NAR, stated in his speech in the fifth session of the parliament of Autonomous Republic of the third convocation.

According to Talibov, as a result of the measures taken to improve the activities of law enforcement bodies of NAR and to consolidate their material and technical base, 564 new jobs have been created. An additional entrance examination was held in the Bar for the improvement of the legal assistance services rendered to the NAR population. Besides, the amendments and changes have been made to the laws: on Public Prosecutor Office, on the service in the Public Prosecutor Offices in line with the legislative initiative, and the status of Military Prosecutor Office was promoted. The construction of Nakhchivani Ministry of Justice's Correctional Body of General Regime was completed. As a result of solidarity of the government, nation and army, more than 16 kilos of foodstuff have been donated and the material aid totaling AZN 1 77 000 have been rendered, Talibov stated.

The area of NAR is 5.5km sq m, which constitutes 6.4% of the Azerbaijan's territory. Nakhchivan consists of Babek, Sharur, Ordubad, Sadarak, Shahbuz, Julfa and Kangarli regions. Nakhchivan AR with its capital in Nakhchivan city has the population of 380,200 people.
