Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 January / corr Trend K.Ramazanova / Azerbaijan is one of major allies of the United States in its fight against terrorism, US Congressman William Shuster, a co-chairman of the working group for Azerbaijan at the US Congress House of Representatives, said in talks with journalists on 11 January.
" Azerbaijan is our strategic partner and one of the major allies in the region," the Congressman said.
On 9 Jan, a US Congress delegation led by Robert Wexler, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe within the House Foreign Affairs Committee, visited Baku. Wexler held official meetings with the representatives of the Azerbaijani civil society.
Shuster said that the visit to Azerbaijan was a familiarization one and the delegation plans to hold a meeting at the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.
Richard Lugar, an authoritative Republican senator, will visit Baku on 13-14 January. The key objective of the visit is to expand bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United States. The Senator will meet with the Azerbaijani senior officials and also hold meetings at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan.
