Azerbaijani New Policy Opposition Bloc Will not Function Again

Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 January / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The functioning of the New Policy bloc will not be restored in connection to the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

The New Policy political opposition bloc was founded by a group of political and public officials of Azerbaijan in spring 2005 in order to take part in parliamentary elections.

The founders of the bloc were Etibar Mammadov, leader of the Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP), Lala Shovkat, chairman of the National Unity Movement, Eldar Namazov, head of For Azerbaijan Forum, Ali Masimli, head of Cultural Figures Democratic Unity and Eldaniz Guliyev, head of Cultural Figures Association. Two members of the bloc, Ali Masimli and Vahid Ahmadov were elected MPs to the Azerbaijani parliament from the bloc.

The New Policy intended to restore its running from September because of the approaching presidential elections.

Eldaniz Guliyev, the chairman of the Cultural Figures Association, stated to Trend that the structure will not function again.

MP Ahmadov said to Trend that he shared Guliyev's opinion.
