Monument to Azerbaijani National Leader to be Erected In Egypt – Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / Trend corr S.Agayeva / The Azerbaijan-Egypt Friendship Park is being constructed in the Egyptian Kalubeya city near Cairo. A monument to the Azerbaijani ex-President Heydar Aliyev will be erected in the park. An opening ceremony of the park and the monument will take place in February, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Faig Bagirov reported to Trend from Cairo in a telephone talk on 17 January.

The sculptors of the monument are Azerbaijani. The project is being implemented within the framework of the cooperation with the Azerbaijani Absheron Region Administration and the Kalubeya Administration. A MOU was signed between Kalubeya and Absheron in summer 2007 during the visit of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Egypt. According to the agreement, Khirdalan and Kalubeya are twin cities, the Ambassador said.

The Park of the Azerbaijan-Egypt Friendship was established in the centre of the Khirdalan city of Azerbaijan and a monument to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, as well as copies of ancient Greek sculptures were built within this park. Kalubeya Adli, the Governor, took part in the official opening of the park in December 2007.
