Azerbaijani Opposition Consultative Body Will Not Boycott Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Consultative Body of the Azerbaijani opposition, which unites five parties, will not boycott the forthcoming presidential election in the country, Ali Orujev, the press and popularization Secretary of the Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP), said.

The representatives of the opposition camp are ANIP, For Azerbaijan Public Forum, Democratic Party, Musavat and Taraggi, began holding consultations from summer 2007. The parties meet once a month.

Another meeting of the Consultative Body with the participation of Ali Orujev, Eldar Namazov, head of the For Azerbaijan Public Forum, Isa Gambar, leader of Musavat, Sardar Jalaloglu, chairman of DPA, Chingiz Damiroglu, chairman of Taraggi, was held on 17 January. The issues concerning the upcoming presidential election were discussed at the meeting. According to Orujev, the parties made a unanimous decision to take part in the presidential election.

Taking into consideration that the presidential election in the country will be held in 2008, the parties decided to hold meetings more frequently.

The Azadlig bloc, which unites three opposition parties, Popular Front, Liberal and Citizen and Development, will not take part in the upcoming presidential elections.
