20 January Tragedy’s Anniversary Marked in Switzerland

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / corr. Trend S. Ilhamgizi/ The anniversary of the 20 January tragedy was marked in the Swiss school of Azerbaijani Language and Culture, the State Committee for the Work with the Azerbaijanis Residing Abroad reported.

In the Swiss school of Azerbaijani Language and Culture, one academic day was totally dedicated to the "bloody 20 January." The teachers told the pupils and their parents about the history of the tragedy, and informed that 131 people were killed and hundreds were injured as a result of the tragedy. The photos and books about 20 January were used during the 'lesson'. This school is the first in the Switzerland- to teach and propaganda the Azerbaijani language and culture.

The European Unity of Azerbaijani women -Ana Veten, which functions in Holland, has circulated in Brussels and Hague bulletins in connection with the anniversary of tragedy of 20 January. The bulletins tell about the history of "Bloody January", the murder of more than 100 civilians. Bulletins which demand the punishment of those who committed the crime are presented to the European Parliament and the parliament of the Kingdom of Netherlands.

The anniversary of the 20 January tragedy will also be marked by the diasporas in Russia, Ukraine, USA, Turkey, Egypt, New Zeeland, European and Central Asia countries, state committee said.
