Replacement of Ambassador not to Adjust Georgian-Russian Relations – Georgian Expert

Georgia, Tbilisi, 24 January / Тrend corr N. Kirtskhalia / adjustment of Georgian-Russian relations mostly depends on the West and Russia rather than on Georgia, and moreover, they are not contingent on who will be the new Georgian Ambassador to Russia, Georgian political scientist Ramaz Sakvarelidze said.

After the Georgian Ambassador to Russia Irakli Chubinishvili retired, Eros Kitsmarishvili, the former Director General of Rustavi 2 TV company, was called his possible successor. The reports were not officially confirmed.

Appointment of Eros Kitsmarishvili as the Georgian Ambassador to Russia is so sudden, Sakvarelidze said to Trend on 24 January. As Russia is still the main sector of Georgia's foreign policy, it would be very surprising to appoint a person not having large influence upon Moscow for the Ambassador position.

"Kitsmarishvili has some potential, but he has been known as a person with his own business interests," Sakvarelidze said.

Today, it became known that Kakha Lomay, the Secretary of the Security Council, may also take the Ambassador position. Previously, he had occupied the position for several years. But as the Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili decided to leave the Government and rejected the position of the Security Council's Secretary, the issue on appointment of Lomay for the Ambassador position may be removed from the agenda.
