Finland Tries to Resolve Crisis in OSCE – Parliamentary Committee’s Chair

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 January / Тrend corr I. Alizade / A crisis occurred in the activities of the OSCE and Finland is trying to resolve it.

"The key purpose of Finland, which is presiding over OSCE, is to solve as soon as possible the crisis which occurred in the activities of the organization. For this purpose a range of very important problems have to be settled," the chair of the Finnish Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Relations Pertti Salolainen, who is visiting Azerbaijan, said 26 January at the meeting with the representatives of the partiers represented in the Azerbaijani Parliament.

According to Salolainen, one of OSCE's main duties is to assist in holding free and democratic elections in the member countries of the organization.

"For that OSCE should send supervising missions to the countries holding elections. But this issue is organized not well enough," Salolainen said.

The main problem in terms of security in the OSCE area is Russia's leaving the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe , he said.

"It is unknown how the problem will be resolved," he said.

Other problems impeding fruitful activities of OSCE are the Kosovo, Abkhazia, Ossetia, and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts, he said.

"Tackling all these problems is among the duties of the OSCE chair and Finland is trying to solve them," Salolainen said.
