Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 January / corr. Trend J. Babayeva/ The next attempt by the opposition parties of Azerbaijan to establish a unified body was not success once again. The statement of the 18 parties to establish new Center of the Democratic Elections was immediately accompanied with the contradictory opinions.

Some 18 parties of Azerbaijan reached an agreement to cooperate in December 2007. Eight of these parties are included in Our Azerbaijan bloc, the others being the Party of Classic Popular Front, Social Democratic Party, the Party of Solidarity, the Great Establishment, Azadlig, National Democracy, Adalat, Umid and the Road of Azerbaijan movement.

Eight parties presented in the union, Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Azadlig, National Democratic Party, Great Establishment, Unified Popular front of Azerbaijan, Tereggi, the Green Party decided to establish the Center of the Elections on 30 January.

The parties included in this Center plan to cooperate in creating democratic harmony during the presidential elections, in making changes to the Election Code, the repatriation of the political emigres to the country, and the establishment of equal conditions for all the candidates.

All 18 parties have announced that they are ready to set up a new body, Yagub Abbasov, the deputy chairman of the Open Society opposition party said to Trend.

Hasan Hasanov, the chairman of the Independent Azerbaijan party opposed the establishment of the Center. "The establishment of the Center is a hasty decision," Hasanov said.

"Our representatives have not been invited to the discussions on the establishment of the Center," Shamsaddin Rahimli, the deputy chairman of the Road of Azerbaijan said to Trend.

"We cooperate with all the 18 opposition parties in all areas except elections," Rahimli said.
