Corruption Related Crimes In Azerbaijan Basically Committed by Educational, Health and Municipality Workers

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 April/ corr. Trend K. Zarbaliyeva/ Corruption related complaints are presented regarding educational, health and municipality workers mainly, Kamran Aliyev, the Head of the Fight against Corruption Office, under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, said to media on 1 April.

According to Aliyev, the majority of those persons responsible for corruption-related crimes are officials and 20 of them have been detained for bribery. They are employees of the Ministry of Taxes, professors of the Oil Academy and the heads of municipalities. In addition the Fight against Corruption office under the Prosecutor-General, the investigations departments under law-enforcement agencies also deal with corruption-related cases. 

"The Court-Law Council investigates corruption related cases on courts and several courts were made answerable and their authorities withdrawn. There have been complaints about police officers as well," Aliyev said.  

The Fight against Corruption office under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan was set up in early 2005 with some 102 criminal cases against approximately 198 officials being investigated to date.
