Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 April / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva/ The issue on recognition of the events committed by Armenians in 1918 as genocide should be raised at the UN, General Zakir Garalov, the Azerbaijani Prosecutor said to the journalists, ANS reported on 31 April.
"Unfortunately, the genocide has not been politically assessed and it was not discussed in the international organizations. That once more proves that double standards are applied in the world," the Prosecutor General said.
According to Garalov, recognition of the events, that took place on 31 March, as genocide requires divulging of the position not only of international but also of all the public organizations. All countries should be informed about the violence applied by Armenians towards Azerbaijanis.
In March-April 1918, the Dashnak-Bolshevik government of S. Shaumyan seized the power and committed brutal genocide on the Azerbaijani people. From March to April, innocent Azerbaijanis were slaughtered in Baku, Shamakhi and other regions. During that period, Turkey extended a helping hand to Azerbaijan and rescued the Azerbaijani population from being killed one and all by the Armenians.
31 March is the memory day of the tragic events in the history of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani people. The facts of massacre, repressions may be considered as one of the tragic pages in the world history of the 20th century. This tragic history of the Azerbaijani people reflects the Armenian chauvinism- mad about creation of the Great Armenia and not disdaining to use any means to achieve the goal.
According to the decree signed by the Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998, 31 March shall be marked as the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
