S.Ilhamgizi / The issue, connected with the violation of human rights in South Azerbaijan, may be submitted for discussion during the meeting of International Democratic Union (IDU) in Washington, Etibar Mammadov, the Deputy Chairman of IDU and leader of Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP) stated to Trend .
According to Mammadov, joint meetings will be held in IDU and Republican Party in the United States on the threshold of presidential elections. "During the meeting, scheduled for August or September, we will attempt to discuss the situation in Southern Azerbaijan (north Iran)," he said.
He further stated that the cooperation process is still ongoing between ANIP and Sweden ruling Moderate party. The representatives of ANIP will participate in the conference in Sweden, which is scheduled in May. ANIP will attempt to include the issue on South Azerbaijan into the agenda of conference.
"The most important problem of Azerbaijan, Karabakh issue, is considered by the State and local structures. However, the Azerbaijani Government and state structures cannot deal with the problems in Southern Azerbaijan openly. For me Southern Azerbaijan is the most important issue. Therefore, we are trying to include this issue into the political agenda of the meeting," ANIP leader said.
According to un-official information, there are approximately 35mln Azeris residing in the Southern Azerbaijan (north Iran).
