Azerbaijani Opposition Party Oppose Musavat Party’s Decision to Stage Rally

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / The opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) considers that the Azerbaijani opposition is not ready to stage rallies, Hasrat Rustamov, Deputy Chairman of DPA, stated.

A decision was made to stage rally on 3 May, during the meeting of Musavat party on 14 April.

Party is planning to stage the rally protesting the Government's reluctance to make changes in the Election Code of the country and its attempt to reduce terms for pre-election campaign to two months. Rally participants will also protest against the increase in prices, as well as demolition of properties of citizens without interference of the courts.

Rustamov, stated that the demands of Musavat have grounds. If the party has stated that it wants to stage rally, it will hold it without permission of the Power.

DPA was founded by Jalaloglu in 1991. The party took a radical position against the Government until 2007. In January 2007, the party took a new political course and improved relations with the authorities. Protesting against such an action Rasul Guliyev, the ex-chairman, and his supporters left the party and founded the Open Society party
