Azerbaijani Parliament Makes Decision on Municipalities
Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 April / Trend corr. I.Alizade / The Azerbaijani Parliament made amendments which envisage unification of small-scale municipalities for more efficient activity. "Municipalities might be joined with the agreement of 25% of voters, who live in the territory of municipalities and have right for vote," Arif Rahimzade, Chairman of the standing Parliamentary Commission on Regional issues, stated in the parliamentary session on 25 April.
There are 2,757 municipalities in Azerbaijan.
The amendments in the Bill on 'Joint activity, unification, partition and removal of municipalities' and 'Municipalities status' were discussed in the Parliament. According to Rahimzade, there are municipalities in the country which unites only five people. "At the same time there are municipalities with little quantity of population which negatively affect their activity," Rahimzade stated.
Parliament has adopted the amendments.
