Former Members of Azerbaijani Opposition Party Returns After Chairman’s Resignation

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 April / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / Members of the National-Democratic party of Azerbaijan (NDPA), who had previously separated from the party, are returning to the party after the resignation of Iskandar Hamidov, Chairman of the party, Ogtai Khalili, Chairman of the Organizational Committee of National Independent party, stated to Trend on 28 April.

Hamidov resigned from the chairmanship position in 2007. According to Khalili, former members who returned to the party were accepted to the Organizational Committee which is preparing to hold a meeting. The Committee currently unites 21 people.

The Supreme Assembly, which will define the date of the next meeting, will be held on 11 May. Participation in the presidential elections, as well as Ahmad Oruj's proposal to join the Azadlig party and the resignation of the chairman will be discussed during the meeting. Hamidov is also expected to participate at the meeting.

Khalilis stated that there are two candidates for the chairmanship position in the party, namely Eldar Tagiyev and Shaban Nasirov.
