Azerbaijani Bronze Medal Winner in Sidney Detained for Blackmail
Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 May / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The Azerbaijani boxer and bronze medal winner of the Sidney Olympic games was detained while receiving $10,000 through threat. The Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan reported that the boxer Vugar Alakparov threatened Kanan Guliyev, founder of the Inshaatchi-E CJSC and took off his car of Toyota model and demanded $10,000 from him.
As a result of the operation held by the officials of Central Anti Crime Department, Alakparov was detained while he received $10,000 and the car was returned to his owner.
By the decision of the Narimanov District Court, Alakparov was detained on the Article 182.3.2 (blackmail) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Together with Alakparov Ramal Amanov, another participant of the World and Europe Championship was also arrested. Amanov was released after several days. Amanov stated to journalists that he underwent torture during detention and he would refuse from the Azerbaijani citizenship.
