Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 July/ Trend , corr E. Babayev/ The number of the members of the training group at the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan (CEC) is being further increased.

"A secretariat has been set up in the district election commissions recently and workers employed there will become involved in the training groups as a result of which the members of the training group will reach about 267," Mazahir Panahov, CEC chairman said in the training organized by the Central Election Commission and Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

A training group comprised of the CEC members has been functioning since the early 2000. The group is conducting training for the members of district election commissions about voting.

According to Panahov, the small number of the group members created extra problems. "At total of 15 trainers trained over 30,000 commission members for at least 2 months," Panahov said and added that now training will take two days and Venice Commission experts will be actively involved and new members will be included in the group.

Panahov called on the election commission members to take an active part in this process. "The Azerbaijani government and people are able to conduct democratic elections and we must demonstrate it once again in upcoming elections," he said.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held in October 2008. CEC will give an official go-ahead to the election campaign at the end of July and the exact day of the election will be made public.
