Azerbaijanis in   Georgia Render Humanitarian Aid to Refugees of Georgia-Ossetia Conflict

Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 August / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The Azerbaijanis living in Georgia render humanitarian aid to refugees from the Georgia-Ossetia conflict zone, Alibala Asgarov, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Geyret (Dignity) national movement in Georgia said to Trend by telephone from Tbilisi on 19 August.

The official Tbilisi says that number of refugees from the Georgia-Ossetia conflict zone and its surrounding Shida Kartli region reached 200,000. At present 70,000 people were officially registered.

According to Asgarov, residents of more than 50 villages of the Georgian Marneuli region gather bed belongings, clothes and food. "A centre was established at the City Administration where humanitarian aid is accumulated. Every evening the aid is delivered to facilities in Tbilisi where refugees have settled," he said.

There are no Azerbaijanis among the registered refugees from the Georgia-Ossetia conflict zone, he said.

According to official report, there are 500,000 Azerbaijanis in Georgia, who basically live in Kvemo-Kartli region.
