US Prepared to Render Economic Assistance to Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, 27 August/ Trend , corr N. Kirtskhalia/ US is ready to render concrete economic assistance to Georgia for both short and long term period. Ruben Geoffrey, deputy US Secretary of State on economic and financial affairs said during his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Georgia Eka Tkelashvili, Foreign Ministry of Georgia said.

The Foreign Minister met with the members of the delegation led by Geoffrey. Minister informed them about the situation in the country caused by the Russian aggression.

At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later the Russian troops entered the city and drove the Georgian forces back to the Georgian territory.

On 12 August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to end operations to compel Georgia to peace.

Peacekeeping forces of Russia and international observers are still in Georgia.
