US Third Navy to Arrive in   Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, 28 August / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia /The United States third navy - Maunt Whitney, will arrive in Georgia on 29 August. The United States renders humanitarian aid to the Russian-Georgian military conflict victims. This was said by Zaza Gogova, Chief of Georgian Military General Staff.

The day before, Gogova together with Ajarian leadership welcomed another American Dallas ship in the Batumi port, which brought humanitarian freight to victims in Tskhinvali region.

According to Gogova, American ships cannot enter into Poti port because the water area may be mined by Russian troops.

At the night of 8 August, large-scale military operations were launched in the self-declared South Ossetia republic. The Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later the Russian troops entered the city and drove the Georgian forces back to the Georgian territory.

On 12 August, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he has decided to end operations to compel Georgia to peace.

Russian peacekeepers and international supervisors remain in the Georgian territory.
