One More Presidential Candidate in Azerbaijan Submits Signature Lists to CEC

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 September /corr. Trend I.Alizade/ Mayis Gulaliyev, who was nominated for presidency in Azerbaijan by the 'Green Policy' Initiative Group, submitted the collected signatures to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on 5 September. "We collected 44,886 signatures in 69 election districts," Gulaliyev told Trend .

The Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will take place on 15 October. A group of opposition parties boycotts the elections.

Gulaliyev is the co-chair of the Green Party of Azerbaijan, established in 2007.

According to him, 1,000 signatures collected by his representatives were recognized invalid for several reasons.

"We did not face serious problems during the signature collecting campaign, except pressure on our representatives and signing persons in Samukh district," Gulaliyev said.

According to the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan, the CEC should verify the signatures and make a decision within ten days.
