Regional Conflicts Still Represent Great Threat to Security in S.Caucasus: Azerbaijani FM

Azerbaijan, Baku, September 23 / Trend / During his official visit in the United States Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with his counterparts from Europe and other foreign countries.

Mammadyarov met with the Croatian Foreign Minister Gordon Jandarkovic to discuss regional conflicts, and emphasized that they are not "frozen" and represent a great threat to the regional security, the Ministry announced.

Mammadyarov also said that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be regulated within the framework of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. In his turn Jandarkovic reiterated Croatiaїs support to Azerbaijanїs position.

The minister also had talks with the foreign minister of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn to mull over recent developments taken place throughout the world, including energy and European issues. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was on focus of talks and the sides stressed that the settlement of this problem would play considerable role in strengthening regional security. Both sides appraised the Turkish proposal on creation of "Platform on security and development in the Caucasus".

Mammadyarov had a meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Eko Tkeshelashvili. Both sides stated that all countries of the region are interested in the formation of peace and security in the South Caucasus. The ministers discussed the bilateral economic relations, transport projects and current situation in these fields.

Minister also met the member of European Committee of America and Ukrainian Foreign Minister. Minister during the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart discussed the bilateral relations and the questions concerning cooperation within the GUAM [a regional organization among Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova].

The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister took part in the official lunch.
