Turkish Representative in PACE Urges EU to Pay More Attention to South Caucasus

France, Strasburg, 2 October / Trend corr. A.Maharramli/ Birgen Kelesh, Turkish representative in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), urged the European Union at the autumn session of the organization to pay more attention to South Caucasus.

"The ongoing conflict in South Caucasus manifests that the European Union delays release of its position on the issue," Kelesh said at the meeting dedicated to the results of the armed conflict between Georgia and Russia.

According to Kelesh, several European countries depend on Russia's energy resources.

"Other ways must be found to transport energy resources so as to prevent Europe's energy dependence on Russia. In terms of transportation of energy resources, Georgia is an important country for EU and Turkey," said Kelesh.

Turkish MP focused attention on the Caucasus Security and Stability Platform, which Ankara suggested to create to provide stability in the region.
