Azerbaijan’s Opposition Party Says Establishment of New Bloc is Impossible

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 October/ Trend , corr A. Huseynbala/ Opposition Musavat says it is impossible to be included in the same bloc with Democratic Party of Azerbaijan.

"We support cooperation within the opportunities of political parties, but is does not seem real to be united with Democratic Party of Azerbaijan soon," Arif Hajili, head of Central Executive Board of Musavat Party said to Trend .

Chairman of Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloglu said it is important for opposition forces to set up a bloc for 2009 municipal council elections and 2010 parliamentary elections. DPA, who is going to boycott elections, refused to join cooperation center set up by 5 opposition parties. He said positions of DPA and Musavat on the establishment of such bloc are compatible. He said both parties will begin discussions on this issue soon.

DPA's position towards presidential elections totally differs from that of Musavat, Hajili said.

"As a whole, DPA's position regarding policy of the Azerbaijani government differs from that of Musavat. This difference is so big that it makes joining the same bloc impossible," Hajili said.

He said even establishment of serious bloc is possible in case there is common elements in their policy.

The oppositional party Musavat was founded in 1992. Isa Gambar, the present Chairman of the Party was the Ex-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) in 1992 to1993 and was nominated for the 2003 presidential elections. The Party is represented by five MPs in the parliament.
