Azerbaijani Opposition Presidential Candidate Blames City Administration for Failure in his Meeting with Voters

Azerbaijan, Ganja, 9 October / Trend corr. V.Mammadov / Azerbaijani presidential candidate of the Unified Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (UPFPA) MP Gudrat Hasanguliyevїs meeting in the Azerbaijani western city of Ganja failed.

їThe City Administration responded to our address too late and this was a reason of the meetingїs failure,ї Eldaniz Namazov, an official of the UPFPA, told Trend on 9 October.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 15 October. A total of seven candidates will take part in the elections including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of Ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party, Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party, Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party, Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.

According to Namazov, although they applied to the Ganja City Administration on 28 September, they responded only on 6 October.

їIn accordance with the Law on Freedom of Assembly, city administration bodies should respond to address three days before demonstration. We could not carry out organizational work because of the Ganja City Administrationїs delay in reply and the meeting failed,ї the official of the UPFPA said.

Ruslan Gardashov, the director of the Ganja City Administrationїs Department for public organizations and political parties, said that they answered the UPFPAїs address, which intended to hold action in Ganja, in time ї on 5 October. Under the Law on Freedom of Assembly, a response should be given to the relevant appeal three days before action.

їWe responded to the partyїs official on 5 October and they could hold their action. All technical work was done with this purpose,ї the official of the city administration said.
