Heads of PACE, OSCE and European Parliament Observation   Mission Meet with Azerbaijani Opposition Presidential Candidates

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 October / Trend corr. A.Huseynbala / The observation missions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Parliament, which will follow the Azerbaijani presidential elections, met with the opposition presidential candidates on 14 October.

"The heads of the observation missions got familiarization with the election platform at the meeting," Fazil Gazanfaroglu, the presidential candidate and chairman of the opposition Great Establishment Party (GEP), told Trend on 14 October.

Presidential elections will take place in Azerbaijan on 15 October. Seven contenders will participate - the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev, chairman of the Umid Party Igbal Agazade, chairman of the Great Establishment Party Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of the Muasir Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, the chairman of the Unified Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Fuad Aliyev and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.

A total of 1,233 international observers from about 60 countries will follow the presidential elections.

"I protested opinion, which was expressed in the OSCE report stating absence of the presidential candidate and current President Ilham Aliyev's alternative amongst the presidential candidates. I offered the head of the PACE mission to compare Ilham Aliyev's platform with mine, translating them into English," Gazanfaroglu said.

The boycott decision of some opposition parties was discussed at the meeting with international observers, Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, an independent candidate, told Trend .

"I said that some opposition parties' boycotting the presidential elections is their right. However, I am participating in the elections because of my protest against them," Alibayli said.

The international observers were interested in, basically, reforms, which Gudrat Hasanguliyev would carry out after electing the President of the country, Elchin Mirzabayli, authoritative representative of Hasanguliyev, the presidential candidate of the Unified Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (UPFPA), said.

The international observers met with Hafiz Hajiyev and Igbal Agazade, the presidential candidates of the opposition Muasir Musavat Party and Umid (Hope) Party, as well.
