Azerbaijani Opposition Party Eager to Return its Co-Chairman to Motherland

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 October / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The left-wing Social Democratic Party (SDP) applied to head of state to create conditions to return Ayaz Mutallibov, the co-chairman of the party and ex-president of Azerbaijan, to motherland.

"For the fist time, we addressed to the President on this matter. The party hopes that the head of state will provide rights of first president Mutallibov," Araz Alizade, the co-chairman of the SDP, told Trend on 20 October.

SDPA is a left wing opposition party. The co-chairmen of the party is Araz Alizade and Ayaz Mutallibov, former president who lives in immigration at present. Ayaz Mutallibov was elected first president in 1991 when Azerbaijan gained independence. Later an action was brought against him. He

has been living in immigration in Russia since 1992.

As to the SDP's attitude toward municipal and parliamentary elections, Alizade said that he would not take part in unifications, which will be established by parties to participate in the elections.

"The party joins municipal and parliamentary elections. The party made decision to participate in all elections to be held in the country," Alizade said.
