Azerbaijan’s Opposition Party to Begin Consultations to Set up Larger Coalition

Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 October/ Trend , corr A. Huseynbala/ Musavat (Equality) Party of Azerbaijan is going to propose to create larger opposition coalition.

"We think the integration and joint activities of the political organizations united in the Center for Opposition Cooperation and other parties is possible," Arif Hajili, head of Central Executive Administration of Musavat told Trend .

Center for Opposition Cooperation includes bloc Azadlig (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Liberal Party, Citizens and Development Party), Musavat Party and For Azerbaijan public forum. At early September, theabove-mentioned political organizations signed a joint statement on recognition of the presidential elections held on 15 October as illegitimate. Government to be formed after the presidential elections, are announced as illegitimate in the statement.

The parties to join new larger opposition coalition were determined in the meeting of Divan of the Musavat Party, Hajili said.

"We do not want to divulge names of these parties. We decided in the meeting of Divan to hold discussions with organizations that can join larger opposition coalition," he added.

"Consultations will be held with other political organizations united in the Center for Opposition Cooperation about the creation of a new coalition. Activities towards creating new coalition will begin after consultations," Hajili said.
