US Concerned over Shut-Down of Foreign Radio Stations in Azerbaijan: Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 November/ Trend , corr R. Novruzov/ The United States is concerned over the shut-down of foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan.

"We are very concerned over the shut-down of foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan. We would like to work with Azerbaijan more impartially and democratically on these issues," US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse said to journalists.

The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council (NTRBC) of Azerbaijan plans to close down foreign radio stations in Azerbaijan, chief of the Council Nushiravan Maharramli said to journalists recently.

In 2007, the NTRBC decided to ban foreign TV and radio channels to broadcast in national frequencies of Azerbaijan. BBC, Radio Liberty and Voice of America obtained one-year term license which will expire by the end of December.

"We want to promote democracy, freedom of media and process of political reforming in Azerbaijan,' Ambassador said.
