Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 November / Trend corr. A.Huseynbala / The most serious and great union of the Azerbaijani opposition should be established by the first half of 2009, the President of the Public Forum of For Azerbaijan (PFFA) said.
"Should this union is established, we will gain a chance to be prepared to campaign in the parliamentary elections due in 2010 and to achieve great changes," Eldar Namazov, the President of the Public Forum of For Azerbaijan, which joined the Center for Opposition Cooperation, told Trend on 6 November.
Center for Opposition Cooperation includes bloc Azadlig (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Liberal Party, Citizens and Development Party), Musavat Party and Public Forum of For Azerbaijan. At earlySeptember, parties included in Azadlig bloc the (the Popular Front Party, the Liberal Party and the Citizen and Development), the Musavat Party and the Public Forum 'For Azerbaijan' signed a joint statement on recognition of the presidential elections to be held on 15 October as illegitimate.
Talks began after the election to create a large coalition of opposition. But mutual accusations hinder establishment of a larger coalition.
According to Namazov, any delay in opposition's unification in great coalition will inevitably lead to repetition of negative developments like in previous years.
"Taking into consideration of negative experiences of previous years, I think this issue should not be delayed, because the opposition leaders know each other very well," the PFFA President said.
The PFFA leader did not exclude the possibility of alternative steps in the case of failure of establishment of the opposition union.
"I am interested in rapid establishment of the opposition union. At present this is my priority," Namazov stressed.
