LAS Requires Israel to Cease Blockade of Gaza Strip: Official Envoy

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 November /corr. Trend U.Sadikova / The League of Arab States condemns the blockade of Gaza Strip and requires Israel to allow the humanitarian missions to come for assisting peaceful population.

"The current military attack of Israel takes a destructive character for the peaceful population of Gaza," official representative of LAS, Abd Alem Abyad, told Trend by telephone from Cairo.

The League of Arab States already required Israel to end military actions in Gaza and allow humanitarian organizations to direct aid to the Palestinians, said Abyad.The blockade of Gaza Strip by Israel began on 17 November due to renewal of the skirmishes between the members of HAMAS Movement and Israeli Army.

For the aid to peaceful population of Gaza, the LAS joined was the United Nations general program on humanitarian mission in Palestine, but now the main issue is the opening of borders by Israel, official representative said.

The LAS Secretary General Amr Musa supported the requirement of his colleague Ban Ki-moon to end blockade of Gaza Strip which caused humanitarian catastrophe in the region.
