Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan prevents import of large volume of drugs to country from Iran

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 15 / Trend , corr. J.Babayeva / The Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan prevented import of large volume of drugs to the country from Iran.

"As a result of National Security Ministry's measures to prevent illegal turnover of drugs on Dec. 11, a gang, dealing with the contraband of drugs via the route of Iran-Azerbaijan, was detained, and nearly 90kg of drugs were withdrawn from them," the public relations department of the Ministry said.

The department stated that on Dec. 11, the Iranian citizen Golizadeh Ilekhcisofa Ahmad Abolghasem became in agreement with the Azerbaijani citizens - Rahib Zeynalov, Ilham Mirzayev, Agashukur Ibishov, Nadir Chiggarov and others and brought the drugs (82kg 500g hashish 5kg heroin and 2kg opium) from Iran to Gulmammadli village of Azerbaijan's district of Jalilabad in a contraband manner. Later they took and hid the drugs in Agalikand village of Azerbaijan's district of Bilasuvar.  

"As a result of quick operation carried out by the employees of the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan, the members of the gang were detained and nearly 90kg of drugs were withdrawn from them," the same source stated.

The head investigation department of the Ministry filed a criminal case in accordance with the articles 206.3.2 (contraband of drugs by a group of people being in agreement previously), 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 (illegal acquisition, maintenance, transportation, dispatch and sale of large number of drugs  by a group of people being in agreement previously) of the Criminal Code and according to the decision of the court, the above-mentioned people were arrested as accused. Necessary investigation and operational-research measures are continuing to investigate all cases of the criminal case and reveal other participants of the crime.
